WINDSOR, Ont. - Garrett Meurs scored twice and Alex Nedeljkovic made 38 saves as the Plymouth Whalers defeated the Windsor Spitfires 5-2 Monday.
Matthew Mistele, Connor Carrick and Tom Wilson had the other goals for the Whalers (16-12-8) while Kerby Rychel and Zach Lorentz replied for the Spitfires (14-18-6).
Nedeljkovic, making just his sixth start of the season, stopped Ryan Verbeek on a penalty shot to keep the game tied at 1-1 early in the second period.
Meurs' second goal of the game, his 17th of the season, and Wilson's empty netter in the third period marked the 18th consecutive period that Windsor has allowed at least one goal.
Jaroslav Pavelka made 26 saves for the Spitfires, who dropped their season-high sixth consecutive game of the season. The Whalers' victory was just their second in the month of December.
