Ross, Locke three points apiece as the Spirit crush the Spitfires

SAGINAW, Mich. - Garret Ross and Eric Locke each had two goals and an assist as the Saginaw Spirit crushed the visiting Windsor Spitfires 8-3 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Nick Moutrey also scored twice for the Spirit (15-17-5) while Jimmy Lodge had a goal and three assists.

Jeremiah Addison added a goal and an assist to round out Saginaw's offence.

Trevor Murphy, Kerby Rychel and Ben Johnson scored for the Spitfires (14-17-6), who are winless in five games.

Nikita Serebryakov stopped 41 shots for the win as Jaroslav Pavelka allowed five goals on 30 shots before being relieved by Jordan DeKort, who stopped 10-of-13 shots in relief.

Saginaw went 1 for 3 on the power play while Windsor failed to score on either of its chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
