Staples scores twice as the Greyhounds crush the IceDogs

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. - Dylan Staples scored twice while Nick Cousins and David Broll each had a goal and an assist as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds crushed the visiting Niagara IceDogs 7-3 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Ryan Sproul, Sergey Tolchinksy and Alex Gudbranson also scored for the Greyhounds (18-16-2), who extended their win streak to four games, and Michael Schumacher earned the game's first star with three assists.

Ondrej Kopta, Anthony DiFruscia and Carter Verhaeghe scored for the IceDogs (21-14-2) and Steven Shipley chipped in with two assists.

Justin Nichols made 24 saves for the win as Christopher Festarini took the loss after allowing seven goals on 35 shots through 40 minutes of action. Bo Bessette came in for the third period and stopped all 12 shots he faced in relief.

Both clubs went 0 for 2 on the power play.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
