Petes score three PP goals en route to downing the Frontenacs

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Peterborough Petes scored three times with the power play as they went on the defeat the host Kingston Frontenacs 5-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Francis Menard, Steven Trojanovic and Slater Koekkoek all scored with the man advantage for the Petes (9-23-4), who snapped a three-game winless streak, while Menard and Trojanovic picked up an assist each for two-point outings.

Matt McCartney and Stephen Nosad also scored for Peterborough as Andrew D'Agostini turned away 22 shots for the victory.

Luke Hietkamp and Michael Moffat scored for the Frontenacs (17-16-2), who have now lost three games in a row, and Mike Morrison made 36 saves in defeat.

Overall, Peterborough went 3 for 5 on the power play while Kingston failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

The victory was the first for Petes' new head coach Jody Hull, who replaced Mike Pelino on December 20th when Pelino was relieved of his duties after two and a half years behind the bench.

Peterborough started the game strong, outshooting the Frontenacs 14-6 and killing off three Kingston power plays in a scoreless first period.

Menard opened the scoring 56 seconds into the second period, beating Morrison glove side on Peterborough's first power play.

The Frontenacs evened the score soon after when a soft wrist shot from Moffat found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.

At 6:10 Nosad finished off a pass from Alan Quine on a two-on-one and just 1:16 later McCartney scored his first of the year from the point to make it 3-1 Petes.

Hietkamp, who was recently acquired from the Petes for draft picks, pulled the Frontenacs a little closer when he beat D'Agostini from in front of the net on a feed by Darcy Greenaway at 17:25 of the period, but a late power-play goal from Trojanovic at 19:19 restored Peterborough's two goal lead.

Koekkoek added another power-play goal at 14:18 of the third period.
