Pancel scores winner as the Wolves beat the Steelheads

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Nathan Pancel scored the winning goal to lead the Sudbury Wolves to a 3-1 victory over the host Mississauga Steelheads on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Brody Silk and Joshua Leivo also scored for the Wolves (14-16-6) while Mathew Campagna contributed with two assists.

Stuart Percy had the lone goal for the Steelheads (18-12-3).

Joel Vienneau made 20 saves for Sudbury and Spencer Martin turned aside 27 shots for Mississauga.

Percy opened the scoring for the Steelheads with a point shot that deflected off a Sudbury defender midway through the second period, but the lead didn't last long as Silk jammed a rebound past Martin with 3:20 left in the period to tie the game 1-1.

Pancel collected the rebound off of Campagna's point shot 1:06 later to make it 2-1 Sudbury and Leivo capped off the game with an empty-net goal in the final minute of the third period.

The Wolves finished 0 for 3 on the power play while the Steelheads went 0 for 4.

Quote of the Day

When we started our journey we made a commitment to our fans to be relevant and to see the Chicago Blackhawks become the best professional hockey organization. There are not two finer symbols of that than Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. The commitment we have made to these incredible young men is equal to the commitment they have made to our team, our fans, our entire organization and the city of Chicago.
