Niederberger makes 40 saves as the Colts blank the Whalers

BARRIE, Ont. - Mathias Niederberger made 40 saves as the Barrie Colts shut out the visiting Plymouth Whalers 2-0 in Ontario Hockey League action on Saturday night.

Josh MacDonald and Steven Beyers scored for Barrie (22-9-1) while Andreas Athanasiou added a pair of assists.

Athanasiou extended his assist streak to six games, during which time he has totalled 11 points.

Beyers goal was his fourth in as many games after scoring just twice in his first 27 contests.

Matt Mahalak turned aside 19 shots in a losing cause for Plymouth (14-11-8), which has now lost seven games in a row.

Barrie finished the night 0 for 6 on the power play while Plymouth went 0 for 4.

If you want to prove people wrong, you've just got to go out and do it. Yeah, we blew 3-2 series leads the last two years, but no one is going remember that if we go out there on Saturday night and beat these guys and go play in the Stanley Cup Final.
