Franson scores winner as the Giants beat the Cougars

VANCOUVER - Cain Franson scored the winning goal at 13:02 of the third period as the Vancouver Giants edged the visiting Prince George Cougars 2-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League play.

Trevor Cheek had a goal and an assist for the Giants (8-23-0), who halted a three-game losing streak.

Jari Erricson scored the lone goal for the Cougars (10-17-4), who have dropped four straight contests.

Payton Lee made 31 saves for the win as Mac Engel made 21 saves in a losing cause.

Both clubs went 0 for 3 on the power play.
