OHL Roundup: Canadiens prospect Galchenyuk leads Sting to 4-2 win over Storm

Alexander Galchenyuk scored twice and added an assist as the Sarnia Sting doubled up the visiting Guelph Storm 4-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

The Montreal Canadiens' prospect now has 24 goals and 56 points in 32 games, which moves him into second in OHL scoring. Niagara IceDogs' forward Ryan Strome currently leads the league with 62 points in 32 contests.

Charles Sarault scored once and set up three more for the Sting (19-11-3), who have won six of their past seven games, while Reid Boucher had a goal and an assist.

Robby Fabbri and Matt Finn scored for the Storm (20-10-3), who had their three-game winning streak halted.

JP Anderson stopped 31-of-33 shots for his 16th win of the season as Garret Sparks made 23 saves in a losing cause.

Special teams factored in for both clubs as Sarnia went 2 for 5 on the power play while Guelph scored once on five chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Kingston 2, Mississauga 1 (SO); Sault Ste. Marie 2, Saginaw 1 (OT); Erie 6, Kitchener 2; Owen Sound London; Ottawa 5, Peterborough 2; Oshawa 3, Belleville 2 and Sudbury 7, Plymouth 3.

At Sarnia, Ont., Boucher and Fabbri traded goals 37 seconds apart late in the first period to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Galchenyuk made it 2-1 with a power-play goal 2:13 into the second period and Sarault made it a two-goal game at 19:33.

Galchenyuk scored again at 8:49 of the third period before Finn added a late goal for Guelph at 19:38.

At Kingston, Ont., Sam Povorozniouk scored the shootout winner and Mike Morrison made 27 saves as the Frontenacs (17-14-1) slipped past Mississauga (17-11-2), which is winless in its last six outings.

At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Nick Cousins scored twice, including the winner 1:09 into overtime, and Matt Murray made 31 saves as the Greyhounds (15-16-2) edged Saginaw (13-16-4).

At Kitchener, Ont., Connor Crisp had a goal and two assists while Connor Brown chipped in with three assists as Erie (10-19-5) downed the Rangers (19-10-4), who lost on home ice for the fourth straight game.

At London, Ont., Seth Griffith's scored twice, including the winning goal with just four second remaining in the third period, as the Knights (27-5-2) beat Owen Sound (22-8-3) for their franchise-record 19th consecutive victory.

67's 5 Petes 2

At Ottawa, Dante Salituro, Cody Ceci and Taylor Fielding each had a goal and an assist as the 67's (9-23-3) downed Peterbrough (8-22-4), who now sit last in the OHL standings.

Generals 3 Bulls 2

At Oshawa, Ont., Chris Carlisle had a goal and an assist and Daniel Altshuller stopped 33 shots as the Generals (19-12-3) moved to within one point of Belleville (19-10-4) for top spot in the East Division.

Wolves 7 Whalers 3

At Sudbury, Ont., Mathew Campagna had a goal and an assist, which extends his points streak to nine games, and Joshua Leivo had four assists as the Wolves (13-16-5) crushed Plymouth (14-10-8), who are winless in five outings.
