Ivan Telegin scores in overtime to help St. John's defeat Springfield 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Ivan Telegin scored a quick goal in overtime as the St. John's IceCaps beat the Springfield Falcons 3-2 in American Hockey League play Saturday.

Falcons centre Ryan Johansen tied the game at two at 19:32 in the third, but Telegin ended Springfield's comeback bid with a goal 56 seconds into overtime.

Spencer Machacek and Raymond Sawada also scored for the IceCaps (12-14-1).

Sean Collins gave Springfield (14-5-5) a 1-0 lead 10:29 into the first period.

Machacek tied the game on the power play just over eight minutes later, and after a scoreless second Sawada put St. John's ahead on another power-play goal five minutes into the third for a 2-1 lead.

IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale made 21 saves, while at the other end Allen York stopped 21 shots for the Falcons.

Quote of the Day

I'm very excited about what happened today. We've worked on this deal with Toronto for a month, or over a month. It got a little bit of legs on draft day, but it really heated up last night, and we were able to complete the deal today.
