Sam Mckechnie scores twice as Hurricanes thump Oil Kings 6-2 in WHL action

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Sam Mckechnie scored twice and Ty Rimmer made 33 saves Wednesday as the Lethbridge Hurricanes thumped the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-2 in the Western Hockey League.

Russell Maxwell, Jamal Watson, Jay Merkley and Giorgio Estephan also scored for Lethbridge (15-14-4), while Jaimen Yakubowski picked up two assists.

Curtis Lazar had both goals for Edmonton (18-6-5). Stephane Legault had two assists.

Laurent Brossoit allowed four goals on 20 shots before being replaced by Tristan Jarry midway through the second. The Edmonton backup stopped 8-of-10 shots the rest of the way.

The Hurricanes finished 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Oil Kings were scoreless on five chances.
