Mike Aviani has four points as Spokane strike late to beat Raiders 7-4

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - Mike Aviani had a four-point night as the Spokane Chiefs cruised past the Prince Albert Raiders 7-4 in Western Hockey League action Tuesday.

Aviani scored three times and added an assists for the Chiefs (20-7-1), who had three unanswered goals in the final minutes of the third period to beat Prince George.

Liam Stewart, Collin Valcourt, Connor Chartier and Todd Fiddler also scored for Spokane.

Dakota Conroy had two goals for the Raiders (20-9-2), while Reid Gardiner and Austin Daae added singles.

Chiefs goaltender Eric Williams made 24 saves, while at the other end Luke Siemens stopped 21 shots.

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version stated the team was from Prince George.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
