Winquist two goals, Cotton 19 saves as the Silvertips blank the Giants

EVERETT, Wash. - Joshua Winquist scored twice as the Everett Silvertips blanked the visiting Vancouver Giants 4-0 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Daniel Cotton turned away all 19 shots he faced for the victory and his first WHL shutout.

Reid Petryk and Carson Stadnyk also scored for the Silvertips (11-17-2) while Manraj Hayer chipped in with two assists.

Payton Lee stopped 22-of-25 shots in a losing cause for the Giants (7-19-0), who are winless in their last six outings and sit last in the WHL standings.

Everett went 1 for 4 on the power play while Vancouver failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
