Buffalo Sabres captain Jason Pominville told the Olean (N.Y.) Times Herald he has signed with the Mannheim Eagles of the top German professional league for the remainder of the work stoppage.

Pominville, 30, led the Sabres last season with 30 goals, 43 assists and 73 points while playing all 82 games. It was the fifth time in the past six seasons he's played in every regular-season game.

Selected by the Sabres in the second round of the 2001 NHL Draft, Pominville has 175 goals and 256 assists in 541 regular-season games, and 28 points in 45 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
