Trafford scores winner as the Spirit edge the Frontenacs 2-1

SAGINAW, Mich. - Terry Trafford scored the game winner with just over four minutes to play in the third period as the Saginaw Spirit beat the visiting Kingston Frontenacs 2-1 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Both Trafford and Vincent Trocheck had a goal and an assist for Saginaw (11-13-3).

Warren Steele scored the lone goal for Kingston (13-11-0).

Nikita Serebryakov stopped all but one of the 33 shots he faced for his first career OHL win as Colin Furlong made 21 saves in a losing cause.

The Spirit failed to score on their only power-play opportunity while the Frontenacs went 1-for-4.

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
