Pavelka makes 43 saves as the Spitfires edge the Spirit 2-1

WINDSOR, Ont. - Jaroslav Pavelka stopped 43 shots as the Windsor Spitfires edged the visiting Saginaw Spirit 2-1 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Trevor Murphy scored the winning goal for the Spitfires (10-10-5) with less than three minutes remaining in the third period while Emerson Clark added a first-period goal.

Murphy, who was acquired from the Peterborough Petes as part of a four-player trade on Thursday, one-timed a cross-ice pass from Josh Ho-Sang while parked at the back of the right face-off circle for the game winner.

Justin Kea scored in the second period for the Spirit (10-13-3).

Jake Paterson made 36 saves in a long cause.

Windsor went 0-for-2 on the power play while Saginaw failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
