OHL Roundup: A look at Wednesday's games

Jordan Binnington stopped 36 shots as the Owen Sound Attack blanked the visiting Barrie Colts 1-0 on Wednesday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Coming off of OHL player of the week honours, the 19-year-old goaltender now has a shutout in three consecutive games and hasn't given up a goal in 181:32.

In 20 games, Binnington is 14-3-3 and leads the league with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.

Cameron Brace scored his league leading seventh game-winning goal for the Attack (17-4-3), who are three points ahead of the London Knights for first in the Midwest Division standings, while Daniel Catenacci and Gemel Smith picked up the assists.

With the assist, Catenacci now has four goals and 13 points in his last six games.

Mathias Niederberger stopped 28 shots in a losing cause for the Colts (17-6-1), who came into the contest the highest scoring team in the Eastern Conference.

Owen Sound went 0-for-2 on the power play while Barrie failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was Guelph 8, Mississauga 0; Plymouth 3, Windsor 0 and Saginaw 4, Sault Ste. Marie 3 (OT).

At Owen Sound, the two clubs combined for 21 shots in the opening period, but it was Brace's goal at 19:20 that put the Attack ahead 1-0.

Owen Sound had a great opportunity to extend its lead when Barrie's Anthony Camara picked up a roughing minor and interference penalty on the same play, with nine seconds remaining in the second period, but the Colts killed them both off.

Barrie put on the pressure in the third period with 14 shots, however Binnington turned away each one for his third shutout in as many outings.

At Mississauga, Ont., Jason Dickinson scored three times, Cody McNaughton had two goals and Garret Sparks made 29 saves as Guelph (14-8-3) blanked the Steelheads (16-7-1), who have lost twice this week to the Storm.

Whalers 3 Spitfires 0

At Plymouth, Mich., Matt Mahalak stopped 26 shots and Tom Wilson's fourth goal of the season stood up as the winner as the Whalers (12-7-4) shutout Windsor (9-10-5), which has lost three straight games.

Spirit 4 Greyhounds 3 (OT)

At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Terry Trafford scored his first two goals of the season, including the winner 2:23 into overtime, and Vincent Trocheck had a goal and an assist as Saginaw (10-12-3) edged the Greyhounds (10-12-2).
