Ben Bishop makes 46 saves in Binghamton Senators' 3-2 win over Toronto Marlies

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Ben Bishop put on a spectacular 46-save performance in goal as the Binghamton Senators held on to beat the Toronto Marlies 3-2 in American Hockey League play Thursday.

Shane Prince, Jakob Silfverberg and Patrick Wiercioch each scored for the Senators (8-4-2), who won their fourth straight game.

Carter Ashton and Matt Frattin replied for the Marlies (9-6-1).

Bishop was the difference when the Senators' defence failed in front of him. Toronto outshot Binghamton 20-7 in the second period, and 14-5 in the third.

Prince and Silfverberg scored in the first to give the Senators a 2-0 lead.

Ashton gave the Marlies their first goal 1:06 into the second, but despite dominating offensively Toronto couldn't beat Bishop.

Wiercioch added one more goal for Binghamton at 5:37 in the third. Frattin finally beat Bishop at 18:30 to make it 3-2, far too late for Toronto to add another goal against a hot goaltender.

Marlies goalie Ben Scrivens meanwhile stopped 22 shots.

Quote of the Day

The last time I did it was 1994 and surprise, 20 years later it’s still working. I don’t do it very much, though. I don’t think I had it. I’m kind of surprised. It was probably because I went to church before the game.
