Stadnyk scores twice, Cotton makes 40 saves as Silvertips edge Tigers 2-1

EVERETT, Wash. - Carson Stadnyk scored both Everett goals and Daniel Cotton made 40 saves as the Everett Silvertips edged the Medicine Hat Tigers 2-1 in WHL action Sunday.

Everett was outshot 41-18, with Cotton allowing only a power play goal by Curtis Valk in the third period, before Stadnyk put the Silvertips in front with his second goal of the game at 12:43.

Stadnyk opened the scoring in the second period with his second goal of the season at 13:17.

The Silvertips killed off 6 of 7 Medicine Hat power plays, while the Tigers denied the ‘Tips on all three of their opportunities.

Medicine Hat outshot Everett 14-3 in the first period, 14-8 in the second, and 13-7 in the third.

Everett was first to crack the scoreboard when Austin Adam released a shot from the blue-line that was deflected in off Stadnyk’s stick in front.

Medicine Hat tied the game on the power play at 7:34 of the third period when Valk scored on a one-timer from the top of the left circle.

The Silvertips re-took took the lead five minutes later as Landon Oslanski slipped a nice centring pass to Stadnyk, who tucked the puck past Cam Lanigan from just outside the crease.

Quote of the Day

That was something I've been dreaming of, something I've told myself before the third period I was going to do ... It was an amazing feeling. It's hard to describe. I didn't believe it went in at first but when I saw all the reaction and all the fans going crazy and my teammates going crazy, it's just an unbelievable feeling. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know whether to jump or just skate and do a Theo Fleury. I don't think I'm the same caliber player he is so I couldn't do it.
