OTTAWA - Ryan Hartman scored on the power play 1:26 into the third period to give the Plymouth Whalers a 3-2 win over the host Ottawa 67’s on Sunday afternoon in Ontario Hockey League action.
Hartman's goal was his eighth of the season and broke a 2-2 tie.
Rickard Rakell and Matthew Mistele also scored for the Whalers (11-7-4) while Simon Karlsson chipped in with two assists.
Ryan Van Stralen and Steven Janes scored for the 67's (6-15-2), who have now lost seven games in a row.
Matt Mahalak turned aside 31-of-33 shots for the win as Clint Windsor made 32 in a losing cause.
Van Stralen gave the 67’s an early lead with a power-play goal four minutes into the game, but Rakell scored shorthanded less than five minutes later for the Whalers to make it 1-1
Mistele then gave the Whalers a 2-1 lead before the end of the first period.
Janes scored a power-play goal 1:48 into the second period to tie the game 2-2.
Plymouth scored once on five opportunities with the man advantage while Ottawa went 2-4 on the power play.
