Petryk scores twice, including winner, as the Silvertips edge the Giants 6-5

EVERETT, Wash. - Reid Petryk scored twice, including the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining, as the Everett Silvertips beat the Vancouver Giants 6-5 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Petryk took a pass off the board to get past the defense, then made a move to his backhand to score his second goal of the game.

Nick Walters, Landon Oslanski, Tyler Sandhu and Ty Mappin also scored for Everett (8-14-2), which was playing without its captain and defensive star Ryan Murray. Murray suffered a dislocated shoulder Friday night against the Victoria Royals and is out indefinitely.

Brett Kulak, Anthony Ast, Kale Kessy, Trevor Cheek and Taylor Vickerman scored for the Giants (7-14-0).

Austin Lotz earned the win in goal, making 21 saves, as Payton Lee stopped 21 shots in a losing cause.

Everett went 2-for-6 on the power play while Vancouver went 1-for-2.

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
