The Calgary Flames and the Canadian Women's Hockey League on Tuesday announced a partnership in which the Flames will become a major supporter of Team Alberta in the newly formed Canadian Women's Hockey League.
"We are proud of our new partnership with Team Alberta and to support women's hockey through this sponsorship with the CWHL," Flames president and CEO Ken King said in a statement. "It will be especially exciting to see some of the best players in the world compete in our own back yard, call Calgary home and to do so while wearing the traditional colors of the Flames."

Team Alberta will be branded with the Flames' colors of red, yellow, black and white and the Flames' unique striping pattern. Pants, socks, helmets and gloves will also be a direct match to the Flames' classic home and away uniforms, along with a new, yet-to-be-determined logo. The new name will be decided from a fan-oriented contest that began Tuesday.
"This partnership truly captures the essence of our strategic plan with a team-to-team alliance that will impact both our own league and women's hockey across North America through growth, awareness and exposure," CHWL commissioner Brenda Andress said in a statement. "This is an important leap forward in our development and we're thrilled to have the Calgary Flames be an integral factor to our future success, as well as the powerful message that this sends to our players, stakeholders and sponsors. Our common goal is to build a strong infrastructure and world-class partnership with the Calgary Flames."
In addition to club branding, Team Alberta and the Flames will cross-promote to expand women's hockey through marketing, social media, ticketing, sponsorship and player community involvement opportunities.
