CALGARY - Brock Montgomery had a hat trick and Mackenzie Skapski stopped all 17 shots he faced as the Kootenay Ice shut out the Calgary Hitmen 4-0 in Western Hockey League action Monday.
Zach McPhee had a goal and an assist for the Ice (5-12-1), which snapped an eight-game losing streak. Sam Reinhart and Jaedon Descheneau chipped in with two assists each.
With the setback, the Hitmen (13-5-3) saw their winning streak end at five games.
The Ice scored twice on eight chances with the man advantage, while the Hitmen went 0 for 6 on the power play.
Rookie Hitmen netminder Mack Shields made 27 saves in a losing cause.
Montgomery opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the first period and then added a power-play goal at 13:20.
Montgomery then scored on a two-man advantage in the third period before McPhee rounded out the scoring with an empty-net goal.
