Puempel scores twice as the Rangers beat the Generals 2-1

OSHAWA, Ont. - Matt Puempel scored both goals for his club as the Kitchener Rangers edged the host Oshawa Generals 2-1 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Evan McEneny, Matia Marcantuoni and Ryan Murphy each had an assist for the Rangers (13-5-2), who have won five games in a row.

Michael Dal Colle opened the scoring on a power play for the Generals (11-9-2) 27 seconds into the second period, but Puempel tied the game with a high wrist shot that handcuffed goaltender Daniel Altshuller at 6:39.

Puempel scored the winner after a couple of cracks at a rebound with 6:33 left in the second.

John Gibson picked up his 11th win of the year by making 25 saves while Altshuller turned away 17 shots in a losing cause.

Kitchener went 0-for-3 on the power play while Oshawa went 1-for-5.

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
