Rupert scores three times as the Knights blank the Whalers 5-0

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Matt Rupert scored a natural hat trick as the London Knights cruised to a 5-0 win over the host Plymouth Whalers on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.

London goaltender Kevin Bailie earned the shutout with a 36-save outing.

Rupert scored at 14:38 of the first period and then again on a Knights' power play 51 seconds later.

He completed his hat trick on another power play five minutes into the second period and later assisted on Olli Maatta’s power-play goal at 11:31 of the middle period.

Bo Horvat rounded out the scoring for the Knights (12-5-2) with a power-play goal at 16:38 of the third period and Seth Griffith chipped in with three assists.

Matt Mahalak made 31 saves in a losing effort for the Whalers (10-6-3).

London went 4-for-8 on the power play while Plymouth failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.
