QMJHL Roundup: A look at Friday's games

Philippe Maillet scored three times and set up two others as the Victoriaville Tigres crushed the visiting Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 7-1 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The 20-year-old forward has produced eight points in his last two outings and now has 10 goals and 24 points in 16 games, which places him second in team scoring behind Phillip Danault.

Troy Vance and Carl-Antoine Delisle each had a goal and an assist for the Tigres (8-7-3) while Angelo Miceli and Philippe Hudon added a goal apiece.

Danault chipped in a single assist to improve his team-leading point total to 12 goals and 30 points in 19 games.

Michael Clarke scored the lone goal for the Screaming Eagles (5-9-4).

Brandon Whitney made 17 saves for the win as David Honzik took the loss after allowing six goals on 24 shots before getting pulled midway through the second period. Alex Bureau stopped 13-of-14 shots in 34 minutes of relief.

Victoriaville went 2 for 7 on the power play while Cape Breton scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Quebec 5, P.E.I. 3; Saint John 8, Sherbrooke 4; Halifax 5, Gatineau 1; Blainville-Boisbriand 9, Moncton 4; Chicoutimi 3, Rimouski 2 (SO); Baie-Comeau 5, Rouyn-Noranda 2; Acadie-Bathurst 2, Shawinigan 1.

At Victoriaville, Que., Delisle opened the scoring with a short-handed goal 4:42 into the opening period.

Vance added a power-play goal for the Tigres at 12:35 and Hudon made it 3-0 Victoriaville before the first period was through.

Maillet made it 4-0 with a power-play goal at 5:42 of the second period before Clarke responded for the Screaming Eagles 24 seconds later with a goal by way of the man advantage.

Maillet and Miceli each added another goal for Victoriaville to make it 6-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Maillet scored his third goal of the game at 2:12 of the third period.

At Quebec City, Jason Houde scored twice and set up one more and Anthony Duclair had a goal and two assists as the Remparts (14-4-0) downed P.E.I. (11-7-1).

At Sherbrooke, Que., Stephen MacAulay scored three times and Jonathan Huberdeau picked up four assists as Saint John (10-9-0) doubled up the Phoenix (3-15-2), who have now lost five straight.

Mooseheads 5 Olympiques 1

At Gatineau, Que., Jonathan Drouin and Stefan Fournier each had a goal and an assist and Zachary Fucale stopped 20 shots as Halifax (17-1-1) beat the Olympiques (6-11-1).

Armada 9 Wildcats 4

At Boisbriand, Que., seven players for the Armada (14-5-2) recorded a multi-point game including Tommy Giroux, who had two goals and two assists, as they crushed Moncton (11-9-0).

Sagueneens 3 Oceanic 2 (SO)

At Rimouski, Que., Guillaume Cloutier scored the winning goal in the ninth round of the shootout and Julio Billia made 24 saves in regulation, and eight more in the shootout, as Chicoutmi (7-10-3) slipped past the Oceanic (11-6-2).

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Samuel Noreau and Raphael Bussieres each had a goal and an assist as Baie-Comeau (12-4-2) picked up at least one point in its 10th straight game by defeating the Huskies (13-6-1).

At Shawinigan, Que., Zach O'Brien and Brandon Hynes each scored in the third period as Acadie-Bathurst (9-8-4) came from behind to beat the Cataractes (3-14-2).
