Jay Merkley's two goals lead Lethbridge to 5-2 win over Medicine Hat

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Jay Merkley scored twice as the Lethbridge Hurricanes defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-2 in Western Hockey League play Friday.

Ryan Pilon, Russell Maxwell and Brady Ramsay each scored for Lethbridge (9-7-2), which scored four unanswered goals for a 4-0 lead.

Hunter Shinkaruk and Trevor Cox each replied for the Tigers (9-9-1).

Hurricanes goaltender Ty Rimmer made 27 saves for the win. At the other end of the ice, Cam Lanigan was chased from the net after allowing four goals on 28 shots.

Marek Langhamer came in and allowed one goal on 25 shots for Medicine Hat.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
