Edmonton Oilers defense prospect Brandon Davidson, playing for the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Oklahoma City, has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.
The team reported that Davidson, 21, is undergoing treatment at the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City.
On his personal Twitter account (@bdavy03) on Thursday, Davidson wrote, "Thanks to all my family, friends, fans, and everyone for all the love and support. It goes a long way. I appreciate everyone who has reached … out and given me the support. I will be back and I will battle through this."
A 2010 sixth-round pick, Davidson is starting his first full professional season with the Oilers' AHL club, the Oklahoma City Barons, and had one assist in six games. With the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League last season, he had 49 points in 69 games.
