Paul Postma hero in St. John's IceCaps 3-2 overtime win against Worcester Sharks

WORCESTER, Mass. - Paul Postma snapped a shot past Harry Sateri to give the St. John's IceCaps a 3-2 overtime victory over the Worcester Sharks on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Postma, in just his second game of the season, took a pass from Jason King at the top of the face-off circle and fired a shot past Sateri for the winner.

King had done yeoman's work digging for the puck before getting it to Postma. Jason Jaffray was also awarded an assist on the play.

John Albert and Maxime Macenauer scored in regulation time for St. John's (), while Mark Dekanich made 16 saves for the win.

Travis Oleksuk and Taylor Doherty supplied the offence for Worcester (). Goaltender Harri Sateri stopped 29 shots.

Neither team scored on the power play. The IceCaps went 0-for-4 and the Sharks went 0-for-3.

Macenauer buried a loose puck at the side of the net to give the IceCaps a 1-0 lead at the 9:10-mark of the first period.

The goal by Macenauer was the first for St. John's since Eric O'Dell's game winner last Saturday against the Norfolk Admirals.

Doherty scored a soft goal at 6:14 of the second period for Worcester. Doherty skated past the IceCaps defence, to the right face-off circle, and fired a wristshot that eluded Dekanich on the blocker side.

Curt Gogol appeared put the Sharks ahead 2-1 at 8:36 of the second period, taking a nice cross-crease pass from Oleksuk. However, Gogol didn't get credit for that goal, as Oleksuk was announced as the scorer.

Albert brought the IceCaps even with just six seconds remaining in the second.

Sawada picked up a pass from Redmond behind the Sharks net and attempted a wraparound. The puck came loose to Albert in the crease, and his backhander found its way behind Sateri at 19:54.

After a scoreless third period, in which Worcester outshot St. John's 7-6, nothing was decided, forcing overtime, and Postma's heroics.
