Meurs scores twice as the Whalerws beat the Rangers 2-1 in OT

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Garrett Meurs scored twice, including the winner 37 seconds into overtime, as the Plymouth Whalers edged the visiting Kitchener Rangers 2-1 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Stefan Noesen, Ryan Hartman and Rickard Rakell each picked up an assist for the Whalers (7-3-3), who have won five of their last six contests and moved into first place in the West Division.

Ben Thomson scored the lone goal for the Rangers (7-4-2), who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Matt Mahalak made 27 saves for the win as Franky Palazzese turned away 30 shots in a losing cause.

Plymouth went 1-for-2 on the power play while Kitchener failed to score on either of its opportunities with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

I loved being in the jerseys again and they worked some magic for us. It was weird in warm-ups, seeing No. 22 in that jersey and thinking he’s [Mike Gartner], and No. 8 reminds you of Danny Briere … every number had me thinking back to the guys who wore them and smiling.
