PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Garrett Meurs scored twice, including the winner 37 seconds into overtime, as the Plymouth Whalers edged the visiting Kitchener Rangers 2-1 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.
Stefan Noesen, Ryan Hartman and Rickard Rakell each picked up an assist for the Whalers (7-3-3), who have won five of their last six contests and moved into first place in the West Division.
Ben Thomson scored the lone goal for the Rangers (7-4-2), who had their four-game winning streak snapped.
Matt Mahalak made 27 saves for the win as Franky Palazzese turned away 30 shots in a losing cause.
Plymouth went 1-for-2 on the power play while Kitchener failed to score on either of its opportunities with the man advantage.
