Kea scores twice as the Spirit beat the Generals 3-2

OSHAWA, Ont. - Justin Kea scored twice, including the winner short-handed, as the Saginaw Spirit defeated the Oshawa Generals 3-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Eric Locke opened the scoring for the Spirit (5-7-2) and also earned an assist on Kea's first goal, which made the score 2-0 in the second period.

Defencemen Colin Suellentrop and Matt Petgrave scored power-play goals for Generals (9-5-1) and Boone Jenner and Cole Cassels each had two assists.

Jake Paterson was named the first star after making 40 stops for the win as Daniel Altshuller made 26 saves in defeat.

Saginaw went 0-for-2 on the power play while Oshawa went 2-for-6.

The Generals were playing without two key forwards in Lucas Lessio, who will miss up to three months after surgery to repair tendon damage in his hand, and Scott Laughton, who was suspended 10 games for a head check to Daniel Walsh of the Ottawa 67's on Wednesday.

Hunter Smith is also out after being cut by a skate last Sunday against the Plymouth Whalers.
