Lake Erie's Mike Sgarbossa scores shootout winner as Monsters down Heat 4-3

CLEVELAND - Mike Sgarbossa had a goal and an assist in regulation and added the winner in the sixth round of the shootout Saturday as the Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Abbotsford Heat 4-3 in the American Hockey League.

Bryan Lerg also had a goal and an assist for Lake Erie (5-3-0), while Brad Malone had the other goal for the Monsters. Jeff Walker added to assists for the Monsters, who got 17 saves from Calvin Pickard.

Krys Kolanos, Ben Street and Dustin Sylvester had the goals for Abbotsford (4-0-2), while Sven Baertschi chipped in with two assists.

Leland Irving made 29 saves in taking the loss.

Street gave Abbotsford a 3-2 lead early in the second period, but Sgarbossa scored at 12:20 of the third before adding the deciding goal in the shootout.

Lake Erie finished 0-for-6 on the power play, while Abbotsford was held scored on its one man advantage opportunity.
