Guelph Storm forward Hunter Garlent named Canadian Hockey League player of week

TORONTO - Guelph Storm forward Hunter Garlent was named Canadian Hockey League player of the week Tuesday.

Garlent, a 17-year-old from Thorold, Ont., scored three goals and added five assists last week. He helped the Storm record three wins over the stretch as Guelph (9-2-0-1) moved into top spot in the Ontario Hockey League's Western Conference.

Colin Smith of the Western Hockey League's Kamloops Blazers and Petr Straka of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar were also considered for the honour.

Jordon Cooke of the Kelowna Rockets was named CHL goaltender of the week. He posted a 2-0-0-0 record last week.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
