Six-point night for Jets prospect Scheifele

Friday, 10.19.2012 / 9:24 AM / News

Winnipeg Jets prospect Mark Scheifele had six points in the Barrie Colts' 7-3 win against the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League on Thursday.

Scheifele scored a hat trick and had three assists in the home win. All three goals and two of the assists came on the power play.

Scheifele told the Barrie Examiner after the game that he couldn't remember the last time he had that kind of scoring outburst.

"Not for a very long time," he said. "Maybe I haven't ever. It was a fun night tonight and I'm glad we got the win."

The 19-year-old leads the OHL with 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 11 games.

The seventh pick of the 2011 NHL Draft, Scheifele had one goal in in seven games with the Jets last season, as well as 63 points in 47 games for Barrie. He also had six points in six games to help Canada win a bronze medal at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship.

I've been getting frustrated lately, and the only thing keeping me sane was the team winning and other people stepping up and scoring. Then you just kind of let it go and realize you can end the series with one shot, that frustration goes away for a brief moment, and that's what happened.
