Mark Dekanish makes 35 saves as St. John's IceCaps defeat Connecticut Whale 3-2

HARTFORD, Conn. - Mark Dekanich made 35 saves Sunday as the St. John's IceCaps defeated the Connecticut Whale 3-2 in the American Hockey League.

Spencer Machacek, with a goal and an assist, Zach Redmond and Maxime Macenauer scored for St. John's (1-1-0). Hunter Tremblay and Alex Burmistrov each added two assists.

Kyle Jean and Kris Newbury replied for Connecticut (0-2-0), which got 22 saves from Scott Stajcer.

Both clubs finished the day 2-for-5 on the power play.
