Schoenmakers and Clarke lead Spitfires to 7-4 win over Greyhounds

WINDSOR, Ont. - Derek Schoenmakers and Michael Clarke both scored twice and Jaroslav Pavelka made 31 saves as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 7-4 in Ontario Hockey League play Thursday.

Josh Ho-Sang, with the first of his OHL career, Brady Vail and Kerby Rychel had the other goals for the Spitfires (4-3-0-2).

Brandon Alderson, Darnell Nurse, Jared McCann and Sergey Tolchinsky replied for the Greyhounds (5-3-0).

Sault Ste. Marie goaltender Matt Murray picked up his first career OHL assist on McCann's third-period goal.

Schoenmakers' three-point performance was his first since Feb. 26, when he turned the trick against the Spitfires while playing for the Sudbury Wolves.

Rychel's third period goal turned out to be the game winner and was the 100th point of his OHL career.

Murray made 32 saves in a losing effort for the Greyhounds, who lost for the second time in two against Windsor this season.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Spitfires.

Quote of the Day

I definitely think going back down helped me, I had a lot of confidence down there, I played a lot of minutes and I think that helped me a lot. With the 37 games up here, that gave me experience as well. I know what it takes to play in the NHL and now it's time for me to show that I'm capable of being a full-time NHL player.
