Brooks Maxwell's late goal helps Red Deer Rebels beat Swift Current Broncos 3-2

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Brooks Maxwell scored his first goal of the season late in regulation to lift the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-2 win over the host Swift Current Broncos in Western Hockey League play Tuesday.

Maxwell scored a power-play goal with 2:30 left in the third, stealing a game the Broncos had tied earlier in the period.

The Rebels (4-5-1) also had goals from rookie defenceman Haydn Fleury, with his first WHL goal, and Matt Bellerive.

Swift Current (3-1-4) replied with goals from rookie Tanner LeSann and Graham Black.

Rebels goaltender Patrik Bartosak stopped 29-of-31 shots. Broncos goalie Eetu Laurikainen allowed all three goals on 32 shots.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
