Winger JC Lipon of Kamloops Blazers named CHL player of the week

TORONTO - Right-winger JC Lipon of the Kamloops Blazers was named the CHL player of the week on Tuesday.

Lipon had three goals and four assists in two games to help the Blazers win back to back games.

The 19-year-old Regina native scored a goal and three assists Friday as Kamloops routed the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-2, and had two goals and an assist Saturday when the Blazers won 4-1 over the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Lipon is in his fourth full WHL season with the Blazers and currently sits fourth in league scoring with 12 points in six games.

Goaltender honours went to WHL rookie Eetu Laurikainen of the Swift Current Broncos for his 71 saves in two games. He backstopped the Broncos to a pair of wins over East Division opponents — the Saskatoon Blades and the Regina Pats.

Quote of the Day

I'm hoping Bob [Murray] didn't go out and get Dany Heatley just to get someone. I'm sure he's excited and motivated.
