PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Peterborough Petes have fired general manager David Reid, the club announced on its website Tuesday.

"The decision was not an easy one but was based on a business decision taking all factors into consideration," the club said in a statement. "The Board of Directors has a responsibility to our season ticket subscribers, fans and sponsors and as a result, the action taken was necessary."

Reid's responsibilities will be split in the interim between head coach Mike Pelino and director of player personnel Mike Oke, while president Jim Deviln will oversee business operations.

The Petes are off to a 1-5-0 start this season and have lost four games in a row. They are tied for last in the East Division with Ottawa.

Peterborough has compiled a 48-84-10 record in Reid's two-plus seasons as general manager.

I've been getting frustrated lately, and the only thing keeping me sane was the team winning and other people stepping up and scoring. Then you just kind of let it go and realize you can end the series with one shot, that frustration goes away for a brief moment, and that's what happened.
