Ross scores shootout winner as the Spirit down the Rangers 2-1

SAGINAW, Mich. - Garret Ross scored once in regulation and then added the winner in the shoot-out as the Saginaw Spirit beat the Kitchener Rangers 2-1 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Tobias Rieder and Vincent Trocheck, traded goals in the shoot-out, before Ross scored the winner on Saginaw's fifth attempt.

Darby Llewellyn scored the lone goal for Kitchener (3-2-1).

After a goalless first period, Ross scored at 10:28 on the power play to give the Spirit (2-3-2) a 1-0 lead.

The lead didn't last long, though, as Llewellyn responded for Kitchener less than four minutes later.

Jake Patterson made 32 saves for the win while Franky Palazzese stopped 26-of-27 shots in a losing effort.

Saginaw was 1-for-3 on the power play while Kitchener failed to score on three attempts with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

I came into a team that had 65 points, that was at the bottom of the basement, a team that everybody wrote off as never going to be good. My goal is to go from the very bottom to the very top.
