Kichton with five points as the Chiefs beat the Royals 5-3

SPOKANE, Wash. - Brenden Kichton scored twice and set up three more as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Victoria Royals 5-3 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Mitch Holmberg also scored two goals for the Chiefs (3-1-0) while Mike Aviani scored into an empty net to round out Spokane's offence.

Austin Carroll, Brandon MaGee and Jamie Crooks scored for Victoria (4-2-0) as Alex Gogolev chipped in with two assists.

Eric Williams finished made 24 saves for the win as Patrik Polivka turned away 26-of-30 shots in a losing effort.

Spokane went 3-for-7 on the power play while Victoria went 1-for-7.

Earlier in the day Spokane released veteran goalie Mac Engel, who has returned home to Alberta and is waiting for a trade to another team. Engel went 42-28-7 as a Chief in 88 career appearances.
