St. John's IceCaps waste 2-0 lead, lose 3-2 shootout to Syracuse

STEPHENVILLE, N.L. - The Syracuse Crunch overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the St. John's IceCaps 3-2 in a shootout Friday in AHL exhibition play.

Hunter Trembley opened the scoring late in the first period with one-second left on a five-on-three power-play. Carl Klingberg made it 2-0 St. John's at 1:03 into the second period.

Brett Connolly got Syracuse back in the game with 12:36 left in the second period, and Matt Taormina tied it with 8:59 left in the third.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
