Matt Duchene has signed to play with Frolunda of the Elitserien, the Swedish club announced Tuesday.

Duchene had 14 goals and 28 points in 58 games for the Colorado Avalanche in his third NHL season in 2011-12. The 21-year-old center was the No. 3 pick in the 2009 NHL Draft by the Avalanche.

He has 65 goals and 150 points in 219 career NHL games. Duchene could begin playing for the team as early as next week, the team's press release on the signing said.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
