SPOKANE, Wash. - Mitch Holmberg scored three times as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the visiting Tri-City Americans 5-3 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.
Mike Aviani had a goal and an assist for the Chiefs (2-0-0) while Dylan Walchuk chipped in with three assists.
Jason Fram scored a single goal to round out Spokane's offence.
Malte Stromwall, Marcus Messier and Justin Feser each scored for the Americans (1-3-0).
Eric Williams made 23 saves for the win as Eric Comrie turned away 26 shots in a losing effort.
Spokane went 1-for-5 on the power play while Tri-City failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
