Maxwell with four points as the Hurricanes double up the Ice 4-2

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Russel Maxwell scored twice and set up two more as the Lethbridge Hurricanes defeated the host Kootenay Ice 4-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Daniel Johnston had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes (2-2-0) while Jaimen Yakubowski added a single goal.

Jagger Dirk and Brock Montgomery scored for the Ice (1-3-0).

Ty Rimmer made 16 saves for the victory as Wyatt Hoflin stopped 25 shots in a losing effort.

Lethbridge found success with its power play as they went 3-for-7 while Kootenay went 1-for-2.

The two clubs combined for 90 minutes in penalties in the third period. Maxwell and Kootenay's Erik Benoit both earned game misconducts for being part of a second fight on the same stoppage of play.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
