Nicholls scores winner as the Blades edge the Broncos 2-1

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Josh Nicholls scored the game winner at the 2:32 mark of overtime as the Saskatoon Blades defeated the host Swift Current Broncos 2-1 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Nicholls collected his team-leading third goal of the season after being sent in on a breakaway on a long pass from Duncan Siemens.

Saskatoon's (2-2-0) Matej Stransky forced overtime when he scored on the power play with 2:03 left in regulation.

Swift Current (1-0-3) had a 1-0 lead when Ryon Moser scored at the 2:09 mark of the third period.

Andrey Makarov made 26 saves for the win. Despite the loss, Landon Bow stopped 40-of-42 shots to earn the game's first star in his WHL debut.

The Blades went 1-for-7 on the power play while the Broncos went 0-for-3.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
