CBA negotiations resume Friday
Negotiations toward establishing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players' Association resumed Friday in New York.

NEW YORK -- Negotiations toward establishing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players' Association resumed Friday at the League's office in midtown Manhattan.

The sides met for approximately three hours in the morning and, after a short break, reconvened late in the afternoon for a three-hour negotiating session. They plan to get together again Saturday for another round of negotiations, and have Sunday blocked out as well.

The main topics of discussion Friday revolved around health and player-safety issues, including drug testing, as well as travel and other working conditions. According to NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, the topics up for discussion Saturday include circumvention issues related to hockey-related revenue and other economic issues not related to the distribution of HRR.

NHLPA Special Counsel Steve Fehr also said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr had a private meeting Friday.

The NHL locked out the players Sept. 16, following the expiration of the previous CBA.

The League announced Thursday the remainder of the preseason schedule was cancelled. Opening night for the 2012-13 regular season is scheduled for Oct. 11.
