Josh MacDonald scores shootout winner as Barrie Colts edge Owen Sound Attack 4-3

BARRIE, Ont. - Josh MacDonald scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Barrie Colts defeated the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night.

Winnipeg Jets prospect Mark Scheifele and Zach Hall each had a goal and an assist for Barrie (2-2-0).

MacDonald had the other marker while Steven Beyers chipped in with a pair of assists.

Daniel Catenacci, Daniel Zweep and Zach Nastasiuk replied for the Attack (2-0-1), who lost their first game this season.

Owen Sound had a 3-2 lead late in the third period, but with the goalie pulled, Hall threw the puck on net and scored for Barrie with just 30.3 seconds remaining.

Both teams struck with the man advantage. Barrie went 2-for-9 on the power play while the Attack finished at 1-for-6.

Mathias Niederberger turned aside 21 pucks for the victory.

Owen Sound's Jordan Binnington stopped 36 shots in a losing cause.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
