Giants acquire 20-year-old left-wing Trevor Cheek from Hitmen

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Giants have acquired 20-year-old left-wing Trevor Cheek from the Calgary Hitmen for a fourth-round Western Hockey League draft pick in 2013 and a fifth-round pick in 2014.

Cheek, a six-foot-two, 198-pound native of Vancouver, Wash., had 23 goals and 49 assists in 67 games with the Hitmen last season.

"We are excited to add Trevor to our group as it gives us a big power forward for our top-6 group," Giants general manager Scott Bonner said in a statement.

"Players in the mould of Trevor are the type that prosper in our system and our team's style is suited to them."

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
