QMJHL Roundup: A look at Sunday's games

Nathan MacKinnon and linemate Jonathan Drouin combined for three goals and nine points as their Halifax Mooseheads crushed the host P.E.I. Rocket 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

MacKinnon led the way offensively with two goals and two assists while Drouin scored once and set up four more.

Stefan Fournier and Brent Andrews had a goal and an assist each for the Mooseheads (2-0-0) while Trey Lewis, Ryan Falkenham and Matthew Beaudreau scored a goal apiece.

Konrad Abeltshauser chipped in with three assists.

Alex Micallef scored the lone goal for the Rocket (1-1-0).

Zachary Fucale made 20 saves for the victory as Maxime Legace allowed seven goals on 27 shots through 40 minutes of play.

Antoine Bibeau came in for the third period and stopped 18-of-19 shots in relief.

Halifax went 1 for 7 on the power play while P.E.I. failed to score on four chances with the man advantage and gave up two short-handed goals in the process.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Quebec 5, Baie-Comeau 0; Moncton 5, Cape Breton 4 (SO) and Drummondville 2, Sherbrooke 1.

At Charlottetown, Falkenham opened the scoring for Halifax with a short-handed goal 5:30 into the first period.

Micallef responded for the Rocket at 7:16, but MacKinnon's first goal of the game, also shorthanded, at 10:47 gave the Mooseheads a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Drouin scored 19 seconds into the second period and then the Mooseheads added four more in just over a five-minute span.

Andrews scored at 12:55, Boudreau scored 55 seconds later, MacKinnon added a power-play goal at 15:01 and finally Fournier scored at 18:34.

Lewis added one more goal for Halifax at 18:34 of the third period.

At Quebec City, Logan Shaw scored three times and Francois Brassard stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Remparts (2-0-0) blanked Baie-Comeau (1-1-0).

Wildcats 5 Screaming Eagles 4 (SO)

At Sydney, N.S., Dmitri Jaskin scored twice in regulation, including one with 49 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime, and once more in the shootout as Moncton (1-1-0) edged Cape Breton (0-0-2).

Voltiguers 2 Phoenix 1

At Sherbrooke, Que., Louis-Philip Guindon stopped 21 shots and Lukas Balmelli's second period goal was the difference as Drummondville (2-0-0) slipped past the Phoenix (0-2-0).
