KENNEWICK, Wash. - Mitch Holmberg scored once and setup two more as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the host Tri-City Americans 5-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Liam Stewart and Carter Proft each had a goal and an assist for the Chiefs (1-0-0) and Mike Aviani added a single goal.

Mac Engel turned away 29 shots for the win as Eric Comrie allowed four goals on 34 shots against in a losing effort.

Spokane went 1 for 6 on the power play while tri-City failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

If you want to prove people wrong, you've just got to go out and do it. Yeah, we blew 3-2 series leads the last two years, but no one is going remember that if we go out there on Saturday night and beat these guys and go play in the Stanley Cup Final. We need to get back to work and we'll start to do that tomorrow.
